ADL names Ben van der Schaaf US healthcare and life sciences leader

Management consultancy Arthur D. Little (ADL) has promoted Ben van der Schaaf to partner and health and life sciences practice leader. Van der Schaaf, an expert in the pharmaceutical industry expert, has been with the firm since 2015, when he joined as a management consultant.

“Ben’s expertise and leadership has been an important part of ADL’s growth in the U.S. and the pharma industry as a whole,” Craig Wylie, managing partner of ADL in the US, said. “His vision for helping clients grow through innovation allows us to put our best foot forward with some of the most influential organizations in the healthcare industry.”

Prior to joining ADL, Van der Schaaf spent nearly 15 years at PA Consulting, first as commercial finance manager, then as a management consultant. He began his career as an auditor at Big Four firm EY. He then worked for The Tussauds Group – the entertainment company that encompasses Madame Tussauds wax museums, Legoland theme parks, and other attractions – in various finance-related positions, including director of finance.

He holds a degree in accounting and auditing from Nvenrode Unversity, in the Netherlands, and an MBA from the University of Southern Maine.

ADL was founded in 1886 and is headquartered in Brussels, Belgium. It operates out of 40 offices worldwide and employs approximately 1,000 people. The healthcare and life sciences practice works with medical technology, biopharmaceutical companies, and associated businesses, offering advisement services in areas such as growth acceleration, commercial readiness, digital strategy, portfolio management, and long-term R&D strategy.

One of the practice’s recent projects saw ADL assist a top medical university in working toward digital transformation, leading to the appointment of a chief information officer. Another engagement saw the firm support a life sciences company seeking to make the transition to the commercial stage, establishing a sales and operations planning process with a demand-driven supply chain.
