Charles Koontz, a seasoned healthcare and consulting industry leader, has joined innovation and transformation consultancy PA Consulting, where he will co-lead the healthcare provider team alongside Bret Schroeder.
In the role, Koontz will oversee the US telehealth, analytics, and digital twin programs – helping healthcare organizations improve patient outcomes.
Koontz has more than 30 years of experience in strategy, business processes, organizational design and development, operational transformation, and business development. He has extensive expertise in the healthcare, technology, and telecom sectors.
Koontz was previously EVP and chief digital officer at Ecolab, a $15 billion provider of water, hygiene, and infection prevention solutions. Before that, he was president and CEO of GE Healthcare Digital and Chief Digital Officer of GE Healthcare. Before that he was an EVP at CSRA Inc (now General Dynamics Information Technology), a provider of IT solutions to defense sector clients, where he oversaw the $1.2 billion federal civilian agencies P&L.
Between 2010 and 2014, Koontz was an EVP at public sector-focused consultancy Booz Allen Hamilton, where he led the health practice to revenue growth of 42% over three years.
Koontz was also previously the group president of the IT and network solutions group at IT giant SAIC, where he managed a $1.5 billion, 9,000 employee business focused on the government, energy, and health markets.
He started his consulting career at EY, where he spent 12 years and rose to the position of managing partner of the telecom, media, and networks practice. After EY’s consulting business was sold to Capgemini in 2000, he spent four years as president and oversaw the integration of the two firms’ telecom and media consulting practices.
Koontz holds a BS in industrial and systems engineering from The Ohio State University.
“We welcome Charles to the team,” Ken Toombs, head of Americas at PA Consulting, said. “His unique expertise in the healthcare, technology, and telecommunications space will provide our US healthcare clients with ingenious solutions, particularly regarding improving clinical and operational outcomes.”
PA’s healthcare and life sciences team helps industry clients solve problems in innovative ways. The consulting firm has helped clients develop innovative products such as the Airora Professional air decontamination technology and the Clinician Matching Network which matches medical staff with the hospitals that need them most in the pandemic.
PA earlier this month welcomed veteran technology consultant Seth Lively as leader of its digital practice in the United States.
